Black History Month returns for its annual celebrations

The College of New Caledonia and the Prince George African Heritage Society are presenting the 18th annual Black History month celebrations this February.

Organizer George Kaweesi says Black History month celebrates the diverse roots of the Nation we call Canada, and the contributions and history of those with African heritage:

“For us here, the reason why we are celebrating is because of that history and also to kind of remind our youngest that we have here, that those of us come from different places – that we have a history and we are actually very proud of that history”

Kaweesi says because of the Winter Games they have had to cut down the number of events. However, February 6th to the 8th will feature a soccer tournament at Charles Jago Sports Centre as well as an evening of song at the first baptist Church.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
