Firefighter testifies in sexual harassment trial

The third woman to come forward with allegations of sexual assault at the hands of a former Fort Saint James Fire Chief took the stand, Wednesday.

Volunteer firefighter Joy Reierson testified heavily to one specific incident at one of the fire halls in April 2013.

Reierson testified that after he was out at the pub, Bennett returned to work and locked himself in a room with her.

She testified that he “kissed me hard”. Though she told him to stop and tried to leave, she says Bennett pinned her to the ground and grinding on her, exposing himself.

Reierson told the court “He was in full uniform, I still trusted the man.”

She then said that just as Bennett tried to get her belt off, two other fire fighters knocked on the door.

Reierson told the court that Bennett smelled of beer and even had an open can in the room with them.

The defence also grilled Reierson on why she complained to the District about his drinking and driving and not his sexual assault or harassment.

She replied that since he was a paramedic, she was concerned about his sobriety behind the wheel, noting he had already had his licence suspended.

The trial continues at the Prince George courthouse all week.
