Residents are being adviced that they may witness smoke coming from the area of the Prince George Airport in the coming of days.
Airport firefighter training will be taking place at the airport over the next few weeks.
According to a news release by the Prince George Airport, fires will be lit and quickly extinguished in a controlled, self-contained environment, and the public is not at risk.
Upcoming dates for training include:
Friday, Sept. 13: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 16: 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 23: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Thursday, Sept. 26: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 27: 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Also, this Sunday, Ellis Road – the main road to the airport terminal – will be milled in preparation for paving. Traffic will be restricted to one lane, and drivers can expect a rough surface.
Weather permitting, paving will occur starting on Wednesday. Service roads Altimeter Road and Beacon Road, as well as the extension to the airport’s long-term parking lot, will also be getting paved as part of the project. Motorists should drive slowly and watch for signage and workers.
