A man well known to police is in custody and facing multiple firearms charges following a recent vehicle stop in Prince George.
Yesterday morning around 12:30, a member of the RCMP’s Street Crew Unit conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near 1 st Avenue and Ospika Boulevard, where a passenger was found to be breaching the conditions of his probation by being in possession of break-in tools.
The man was advised of his arrest, but RCMP said he refused to cooperate with them.  After a brief struggle, the man was handcuffed and taken into custody.
A search of the man found him in possession of ammunition and more break-in tools.  A search of the vehicle found rifle magazines, one of which was loaded, within reach of the suspect.  Two rifles including a fully loaded SKS style rifle with a prohibited magazine were also found.  The vehicle was seized as part of the investigation.  Several more items including stolen identification and credit cards were found.
The BC Prosecution Service has approved the following Criminal Code charges against 32-year-old David Michael O’Neill of Prince George:
- Transport a weapon in a careless manner (2 counts)
- Occupy a vehicle knowing there was a firearm in the vehicle (2 counts)
- Possession of a firearm without a licence (2 counts)
- Knowingly possess a firearm without a licence  (2 counts)
- Possession of break-in instruments
- Resist arrest
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition while prohibited (3 counts)
- Fail to comply with probation (2 counts)
O’Neill has been remanded in custody until his next court appearance scheduled for Wednesday, August 21st.
