Mining company believes they have good reason for defamation suit

Taseko Mines ltd. and the Western Wilderness Committee are in court for the next two weeks, trying to settle a defamation lawsuit.

It stems from a 2012 period in which the committee made comments about Taseko’s proposed Prosperity Mine that were not well received by the mining company.

VP of corporate affairs for Taseko Mines Brian Battison, says the company did its due diligence, informing the public and finding significant support for the project:

“To have an organization like the Western Wilderness Committee try to undo all of that by using falsehoods is something that really shouldn’t be tolerated in a system that is supposed to depend on the truth.

However, Aboriginal groups believe this suit is masking the true intent of the mining company, saying they wish to see a third hearing on the viability of their mine. Something Battison was disappointed to hear.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
