Spirit of the North gets huge donation toward scanning equipment

The Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation is thankful for a huge donation Wednesday.

Dance North presented the health care organization with a $36,361 cheque toward diagnostic equipment.

Spirit of the North CEO Judy Neiser is overwhelmed from all the support that came in.

“Working with nine dancers, several trainers this year with Dance North, it’s just a phenomenal group to work with,” she says. “For anyone who hasn’t been able to participate or come down and watch, it really really is a first-class evening, for New Years and was a great way to ring-in 2015.”

Neiser is honoured that “Boogie with the Stars” chose to donate toward diagnostic equipment and medical imaging.

“While we haven’t identified the piece of equipment, that’s the area of interest that will go to, it’s the area of greatest need for Spirit of the North and for Northern Health, right now.” she says.

Neiser this is part of the now-complete initiative to fund an advanced Spect CT diagnostic scanner.

“The Spect CT was a $1.4 million dollar project that was recently completed, that was the initial stage of advancing and medical imaging and diagnostics,” she says. “That is completed, the equipment, the first patient went through on December 9th.”

Neiser says the advanced screening equipment is more thorough and comfortable for patients than their old equipment.
