Successful first day for Variety BC Radiothon

With the first day wrapped up for the 15th Annual Variety BC Radiothon, fundraising is well on its way towards the $70,000 goal for this year’s event.

When the phone lines closed for the day, a total surpassing $27,000 had been raised.

Selen Alpay, Owner of Canadian Tire in Prince George, as well as a sponsor of the event, told MyPGNow that Day 1 was a great start to the event.

“There are so many great, giving, community members in this city. They have all stepped up. We have had all types of donations today, from $10 up to $1,000. The RCMP came in, one of their divisions came in a wrote a cheque for $820. Another great gentleman, he just walked in and had $200 and said he didn’t have any kids but that was how he wanted to do his part.”

With Day 2 getting underway tomorrow (Thursday) once 6:00 a.m. rolls around, Alpay is hoping the generosity continues.

“This is such a great community, and this community always comes together for great causes,” said Alpay. “What’s a better cause than a young child who’s in need of some very basic things? Come on down and give whatever you can.”

Donations can be made by calling toll-free at 310-KIDS, online at variety.bc.ca, here at MyPGNow, or by texting “KIDS” to 45678 to make an automatic $20 contribution.
