Northern Health adopts a simulated baby

There’s a new addition to the Northern Health family.

Simbaby ™ training simulator is a state of the art infant simulator which will be used as part of the Northern Clinical Simulation lab training for healthcare professionals.

The new equipment was made possible through a grant to the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation from the RBC Foundation and it will allow a wide array of simulated pediatric situations to be replicated for teaching, analysis, and debriefing in a controlled and non-judgemental environment.

“It’s meant to replicate a baby and anything that could happen to a child. So it actually can vomit, it can have a reaction, it can have a seizure, it can have anything that is programmed,” said Judy Neiser, CEO of Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

“It’s really instrumental in how healthcare professionals can deal with a particular case of a child.”

It goes hand in hand with the SimNewB ™, funded by the Wine Lovers event last fall, and Spirit of the North is hoping to extend the family even further by fundraising for a Sim Noelle ™  at this year’s event.

“All of these are meant to react no different than a life-size person could. In an adult, you could have them have dementia. In a child, you could program a fever. You can program to simulate any situation than healthcare professional could potentially see in real life,” said Neiser.

Their next event is scheduled for Friday, Sept 27th, 2019 at the Coast Inn by APA.
