The Prince George Fire Rescue is stressing the importance of functioning smoke detectors following a structure fire this (Sunday) afternoon about 2:00 in the 1700 block of Kenwood Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered smoke coming from the basement of the residence.
It was determined shortly after that the fire was originating from the kitchen of the basement suite, which was extinguished quickly thereafter.
At the time of the incident, there was one individual in the suite, as well as one in the upstairs suite.
Fortunately, both individuals were able to get out safely without any injuries.
There were also no reported injuries to the 15 firefighters on the scene.
Fire crews discovered following the fires being put out that neither units had working smoke detectors.
The cause of the fire at this time is deemed accidental and the damage is estimated at 20,000.
