It seems everybody in Prince George is coming down with Spruce Kings fever.
The Doyle Cup and Fred Page Cup champions are heading into the home stretch of the National Junior A Championship in Brooks, Alberta where the Spruce Kings (3-0) will be playing in one of the semi-finals on Saturday with the goal of playing for all the marbles Sunday afternoon.
Fans, parents, and billets made the trek down to southern Alberta to watch the BCHL’s most northern franchise take down the competition.
Monica Peacock looks after Prince George netminder Logan Neaton who recently spoke with MYPGNOW before making the long drive to Brooks.
“These boys need all the encouragement they can. We see a lot of support on Twitter as well as a lot of message sending through the Spruce Kings site and on Facebook so I would tell people to take the time to let them know we are behind them.”
Peacock couldn’t be more proud of the dedication the players have shown over the season just to get to this point.
“I am so grateful for the young men who have put it on the line as a lot of them will be going to colleges next fall especially the ones playing a few more times putting every bit of effort into it. But we couldn’t have gotten this far without the front office, the board of directors and most of all the fans.”
The Spruce Kings finish the round robin tonight against the host Brooks Bandits where an instant rivalry was created between the two teams at the Doyle Cup where PG eliminated the Bandits in six games.
However, regardless of what happens, Peacock and the rest of the billet families will be proud of what this group accomplished.
“They have had one great ride this season and we get to take advantage of that, so come on out when the time is right because we will have something next week in PG to recognize them. We have 20 billet homes and not all of us could make it to Alberta. I had the pleasure of having Logan Neaton this year and couldn’t be more pleased to be hosting the star goalie.”
