Prince George teen beats cancer

A Prince George teen struggling with cancer is on the road to recovery.

Kyra Edgson had just started grade 9 at D.P. Todd Secondary School last year when she had to be airlifted to Vancouver to start cancer treatment.

Her Mother Katie Edgson said she is doing much better after a bone marrow transplant from her sister.

“The bone marrow transplant worked so she is cancer free. We are just dealing with other complications that come with cancer treatment.”

Edgson said they still have some steps before they can leave the hospital but are hoping to be back in Prince George by September.

D.P. Todd Secondary School has held several fundraisers to support the family. In the latest fundraiser students paid for the chance to throw a pie in their teachers face.

“Things like the school fundraising have been great; just keeping Kyra in the loop knowing she is not forgotten.”

Kate said right now they want to raise awareness about Leukemia and the importance of bone marrow donors. She added before Kyra got sick things like this were not even on their radar.
