It was a special day for Jim Terrion who was honoured with the Government Community Achievement Award during Sunday’s Terry Fox Run in Prince George.
The 55-year old moved to Prince George from Prince Rupert and has raised over $673,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation since 1991.
His mother, Faye Terrion says her son had to overcome his share of hurdles growing up.
“We tried to get into the School of the Deaf when he was 5 and didn’t get in until he was 14 and had to leave at 18 so he didn’t have much of an education. One doctor even told us Jim would never amount to anything in his lifetime which I was not happy with.”
Terrion walked from Prince Rupert to Edmonton and back during the 1991 World Games for the Deaf which were hosted in Banff, Alberta.
Terrion raised under $24,000 in just 18 days in 2016 for the run with most of the funds coming from Prince Rupert.
He also carried the torch for the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
