New cargo warehouse opens near YXS

YXS is beefing up its cargo capacity.

Today, the Prince George Airport Authority celebrated the opening of its new 25,000 square foot cargo warehouse at 4111 Boeing Road.

“It is fantastic news that we now have this facility open at the airport,” says BC Jobs Minister Shirley Bond. “Any time we enhance the cargo capacity here, that’s an important economic factor when you’re trying to attract additional business to YXS. Certainly when I’ve lead trade missions to Asia, for example, one thing that investors want to know is that, when their goods get to Canada, they can actually move. This facility allows us to see the movement of goods in Western Canada so it’s a great next step for YXS today.”

More goods coming into the airport will mean more freight going out. Much of that will be done by truck and Rosenau Transport intends to be a part of that. CEO Carl Rosenau says the new warehouse is a big step for the company, which plans to add more than a dozen new jobs in Prince George in the next few years.

“You get more freight, you get more jobs. We’re intending to increase our freight capacity quite a bit. We’re working currently with some of the largest air carriers there are and Prince George is on their radar. Air freight in years to come is going to be big, big, business. We’re starting now.”

Bond says the new warehouse is just one more piece in the expanding picture of YXS.

“This airport has the infrastructure in place to be a major player in the cargo industry. We’ve invested in the runway so that is has the length necessary to bring in those big plans. Every piece that you add to that puzzle helps us attract those cargo companies which are so important to us.”
