Hall talks downtown parking, COVID-19 recovery during virtual Talktober session

Prince George Mayor Lyn Hall was quite pleased with how this week’s virtual Talktober session turned out.

Hall told MyPGNow.com there was no shortage of issues brought up by residents who participated via Zoom or Facebook Live.

“We had questions around parking in our downtown, sidewalk renewals, snow clearing, our program to upgrade streets and our paving program along with comments on our capital projects and overruns. So there was a mixed bag, which I was really pleased to see.”

When asked how the city plans to escape the budget shortfall it’s currently facing, Hall stated it all depends on the number of recovery dollars they receive from both the federal and provincial governments.’

“We hope to see them flowing to municipalities very soon after the BC government is sworn in and that will have a huge impact on how we close our fiscal gap, the more we can close that the less we have to do when it comes to increasing taxes.”

“The recovery piece is important for the municipalities and one of the big players going forward will be the importance of our infrastructure projects.”

Hall added the virtual format is an easy way for city officials to get the message out and engage the public.

He’s interested in hosting a similar session early in the new year.
